Fort Worden & Point Wilson Lighthouse

We drove from Sequim to Port Townsend for the afternoon.  As it was very difficult (impossible?) to park downtown we decided to leave that till another day when we stay at the marina and can walk to the shopping area.  Instead we visited Fort Worden State Park, where we cooked lunch and exercised the dogs.

Situated on 433 acres, Fort Worden was originally built as a United States Army installation for the protection of Puget Sound.  It was an active US Army base from 1902 to 1953.  Purchased by the State of Washington in 1957 to house a juvenile detention facility, in 1971 use was transferred to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and Fort Worden State Park was opened in 1973.

Adjacent to Fort Worden, and within the boundaries of the park, is Point Wilson Lighthouse.
