Wine Tasting

Jane, Simon and I spent a delightful afternoon sampling the wares of three local wineries:

Giracci Vineyards & Farms and Cowboy Canyon Winery share the same address but are separately owned and operated.  Giracci provided a flight of three rather uninspiring whites followed by three more interesting reds in a typical busy winery / event setting,  Tucked around a corner near the stables,Cowboy Canyon served a crisp refreshing non-oaked 'Silver Spurs' chardonnay in a much more casual setting along with five distinctive reds, of which the 2010 'Posse' blend was our collective favorite.

Tucked away along a gated private road, Hamilton Oaks Vineyard is more than a little challenging to find, but oh so well worth the effort.  A truly delightful setting in what was originally a private residence, Robert is a most charming host.  Our flight consisted of a lovely stainless steel chardonnay, a delightful 'Canyon Blend', a Barbera, a Malbec a Petite Sirah, and an interesting green apple champagne.  This was accompanied by a nicely presented platter of fruit & cheese.  On sale at $15, the Canyon Blend was exceptional value.
