Mixed emotions!

Wow!  This is the lowest price I've paid for gas in California in simply ages!  Yesterday Costco's price was just $2.869 a gallon.  No wonder there were long lines at the pumps!

Why mixed emotions?

On the one hand, if prices remain low it'll make our next trip in the Chinook very much less expensive than the last one.  When we set out on our recent 4½ month odyssey we were paying more than $4 a gallon.  If current prices remain in force we will save at least 25% - 30% on gas for the next leg of our journey!

On the other, lower prices make for ever faster depletion of what is already a rapidly dwindling resource.  One small case in point, I read the other day that Hummer sales are rising again due to falling gas prices.  What a myopic lot we all are!
