  1. Wow, that is amazing views, and I know Janet would love to paint that archway. Was that an observation area on the walking trail?

    1. The West Shelter and parapet was constructed in the 1930s by a five man crew. During WWII it was used as a coastal watch station and a large coastal defense gun was temporarily installed. It's a great location for whale watching.

  2. Oh, I figured it was a bit more then just a "view" point for hikers; it looks much more substantial and a gunnery position/look out post would sure fit the bill. Thanks!
